The framework orients members around the primary knowledge domains of NCCIโTransformation, Innovation, and Improvementโproviding a structure that assists in articulating and defining knowledge, skills, and attributes deemed integral to impacting higher education. The framework, as designed by the Education Council, is comprised of five primary concepts as defined below.
Pillar
Primary domains of knowledge. The framework offers three domains deemed as central knowledge topics of the organization.
Core Area of Focus
Specific subtopics within a domain. There are multiple categories of core knowledge within each domain. The framework is highly integrated, and a core area of knowledge may have application to one or more pillars.
CompetenCY
A narrowed focus of skill development within the core area of focus. A competency is a description of the knowledge, skills, and abilities essential within each core area.
Proficiency Level
A continuum of progressive levels of learning in both theory and practice applying educational content in the workplace.
Level 1: Novice
Foundational skills and knowledge; and apply what has been learned to tasks and situations.
Level 2: Intermediate
Recognized as a knowledgeable resource by peers; actively shares expertise through presentations, discussions, and teaching; and coaches/mentors others on topic.
Level 3: Expert
Viewed as an expert and/or leader in the field; demonstrates deep understanding of trends and developments by creating relevant resources; and applies advanced knowledge and skill to lead and manage multiple projects successfully.
